Has anybody like toni and google thought about the REAL implications of prop 8? It is not a gay issue, it is about a definition of marriage. As far as RIGHTS go, how decieving can the former governor moonbeam be by entitling prop 8 as eliminating the rights of same-sex couples? Gay or not, ALL DOMESTIC COUPLES IN CALIFORNIA are entitled to rights that are EQUALL to those of married couples. Does the fact that people, gay or not, have to registered for those rights or benefits have any impact on them doing so? I cite the example of the policewoman in Los Angeles who lost her domestic partner in the train crash as an example of the real problem that exists, fear of reprisal for registering as a domestic couple. It was very tragic and I feel for her loss. She lost far more by not registering as a domestic couple. Discrimination by those in law enforcement because of that filing? Grounds for a law suit, end of story.
What very few people are saying is that prop 8 can have a HUGE RIPPLE EFFECT on everyone else's freedoms. Does the fact that a church believes contrary to the homosexual lifestyle and refuses to marry a same-sex couple constitute a discriminatory act? Does that fact that a religion believes same sex unions are wrong and says so constitute hate speech? Will your church lose its tax-exempt status because it refuses to perform same-sex marriages? Will you decrease your donations to the church because of that loss? And what about your own beliefs and actions being subject to the speech police? LOOK, it is ok for you to be offended, and it is within my rights and yours to offend and be offended by others as well. When will we find the strength to stand up for our God given rights and beliefs, quit listening to the politically correct people that are driving this great country down the tubes. One of the great things about America is our freedom to create and have a dialog that comes to an understanding that we do have differences amoungst ourselves. In other countriestheir are severe penalties and incarceration for speaking out. Is that the kind of society you want to live in? When will we be brave enough as our fore fathers were, to stand up against the hidden agendas and tyranny of the decietful, controlling people who would have us be the same as every other nation on the earth? Face it, we are not like every other nation, we are unique. Do not blog back and try to tell me that religion is the great farce or separator of men, I wasn't born yesterday. I know that it can manipulate people as well. Be thoughtful, open your history books and read about the societys that had similar detrimental issues such as ours, financial bankruptcy, sex amoungst same sex, poorly sustained military strength, etc. If you need a hint, think Romans and Greeks, although the Greeks faired better.
I am not worried about same-sex couples not being able to use the word married, I am worried about all of the other potential losses all of us may suffer. I find it amusing at my age to remember when I was in a gay mood it was considered happy. It had nothing to do with sex!!!
